Every week we talk to buyers in Lagos, Accra and Kampala who have been burned by a cheap truck \u2014 or are afraid of being burned. This guide is the process we use ourselves, written so you know exactly what happens from “I want a truck” to “the truck is working in my yard.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1 \u2014 Define the job, not just the truck<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sand and gravel hauling wants a 6×4 tipper; container and long-haul work wants a 371\/400 HP tractor head; heavy mining or quarry work may need an 8×4. Tell your supplier the tonnage, distance and terrain<\/strong> \u2014 that determines the right model and body, and stops you overpaying for the wrong spec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2 \u2014 Choose your source: new, used, or remanufactured<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

  • New<\/strong>: full warranty, highest price, longest lead time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Used as-is<\/strong>: cheapest, but condition is unseen risk.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Remanufactured<\/strong>\u00a0(our specialty): used chassis, fully reconditioned in China \u2014 engine and gearbox overhauled, hydraulics rebuilt, wear parts replaced, with photos and a replacement list you can check.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Step 3 \u2014 Verify the exporter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    A serious exporter can show you: registered company, real stock in photos and live video calls<\/strong>, a physical yard, and export records. Ask for a video walkaround of the exact unit<\/em> you’re buying \u2014 if they can’t show you the actual truck, walk away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 4 \u2014 Inspection before payment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    You have the right to inspect: we offer detailed photos, videos and third-party inspection. Check the engine number, chassis number, and ask for the replacement parts list<\/strong> in writing. Never pay the full amount on trust alone \u2014 a standard split (deposit + balance against documents) protects both sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 5 \u2014 Shipping: FOB, CNF and what they mean<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    • FOB<\/strong>: you arrange shipping from the Chinese port.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • CNF<\/strong>: we arrange freight to your destination port \u2014 easier for most first-time buyers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Typical sea freight China \u2192 Lagos\/Tema\/Mombasa: roughly\u00a030\u201345 days<\/strong>\u00a0depending on the route and vessel schedule. We’ll quote the current rate with your truck size (a 6×4 truck usually fits one 40ft flat-rack or high-cube container, or rolls on a RoRo vessel).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Step 6 \u2014 Import documents & clearing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Your import will need the Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoice, Packing List, and a Certificate of Origin<\/strong> (ask us for the full Nigeria\/Ghana\/Uganda checklist for your specific port). Duties are calculated on the declared value \u2014 keep your paperwork consistent to avoid clearing delays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Step 7 \u2014 Onward: registration, and your first service<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Plan the first service early: replace consumables after the voyage, keep the replacement list for your mechanic, and register the truck with your local authority before heavy use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
